Castanospermum australe
Castanospermum australe, also known as the bean tree, is a plant in the Fabaceae family.
It is native to the rainforests of Australia.
In its natural state, the Australian horse chestnut is a stately tree, reaching 30-40 meters in height.
It forms a spreading crown and develops very large, pinnate leaves composed of a dozen or so oval, large, dark green, glossy, leathery leaflets.
The flowers are large, bicolored, papilionaceous, and clustered on the stems in dense, clustered inflorescences.
The fruits are elongated, bulging, and stiff pods filled with large, oval, brownish-brown seeds.
The pods and the seeds within them resemble beans.
Requires fertile, humus-rich, slightly moist soil. Prefers a bright, diffused light location, away from direct sunlight.
