Mucuna pruriens is a subshrub in the legume family. It is native to East Asia, the Moluccas, and the Philippines.

It grows up to 15 meters tall.

The leaves are trifoliate, ovate, or rhombic.

The flowers are white or pink and develop in pods ranging from 4 to 13 centimeters long.

Each pod contains up to 7 flattened seeds.
