Broussonetia papyrifera
Broussonetia papyrifera is a shrub native to China and Japan. It grows to 1-2 meters tall.
The plant has medicinal properties! Fresh sap from its roots kills intestinal parasites.
The flowers are catkin-shaped and spherical, red-orange, gathered in thick, hanging inflorescences, and bloom very showily.
The fruit is a spherical, edible, red berry that ripens in autumn.
The leaves are ovate or three-lobed, hairy, up to 30 cm long, purple in spring, later turning silver-green.
Broussonetia papyrifera has no special soil requirements. It prefers a sunny or partly sunny location. Hardy to -23°C (-7°F).
