Symplocos tetragona
Symplocos tetragona is a species of tree native to southeastern China.
In Poland, it typically grows as a shrub, 3-4 meters tall. In optimal conditions, it can reach 5-6 meters, while in its native habitat, it can reach up to 12 meters.
The leaves are oval, ovate, often slightly wrinkled, and 4-7 cm long.
The flowers are creamy white, star-shaped, and small, gathered in panicles. It blooms in late May and early June. The flowers exude a delicate, pleasant fragrance.
The most distinctive feature of the fruit is its light blue, almost sapphire-blue berries in autumn, which are a delicacy for birds.
Symplocos tetragona grows best in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil.
It prefers sunny to partially shaded, sheltered locations.
