Lagerstroemia speciosa
Lagerstroemia speciosa is a large, spreading shrub belonging to the loosestrife family, native to areas from India and China to northern Australia. Commonly known as Banaba, it reaches approximately 4 meters in height in our climate.
The fragrant, small, purple flowers, gathered in erect inflorescences up to 30 cm long, bloom in late summer. The plant has medicinal properties! Among other things, it maintains normal blood glucose levels and is recommended for kidney, bladder, and hypertension problems.
The fruit is spherical or ovoid, brown. The leaves are green, oblong, and pointed, turning red in autumn. Lagerstroemia speciosa has no soil requirements. It prefers sunny or partially sunny, sheltered locations. It is frost-resistant.

Seed Handling Guide:
It's a good idea to soak the seeds in water at 37-40°C for 24 hours to accelerate germination. Prepare a soil mix for sowing. A good option is a peat and sand mixture. Use sowing containers with drainage holes or pots. Sow the seeds at a depth of three times their size. For small seeds, lightly press them down or cover them with a minimal layer of sand. After sowing, water them gently using a sprayer. Keep the soil constantly moist, but not wet. Place the container in a bright location, but avoid direct, bright sunlight, which can dry out the soil.
