Medicago sativa

Medicago sativa is a perennial plant belonging to the legume family. It is native to North Africa, much of Asia, and almost all of Europe.

It grows up to 90 cm tall.

The leaves are compound, trifoliate, oblong-oval, serrated and pointed at the tip.

The flowers are purple, gathered in a raceme-shaped, capitate inflorescence of 5-30 flowers. The flowers are 8-12 mm in size.

The fruit is a brown, twisted pod with small, light brown, oval seeds.
