Acer rubrum
Acer rubrum is a large tree native to eastern North America.
The leaves are finely serrated, green, and light and hairy underneath. In autumn, they turn a beautiful, intense red.
Small red flowers appear before the leaves have developed. It blooms in March and April.
The fruit is a double samara, typical of maple trees, ripening in late May and early June.
Acer rubrum requires fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral to acidic pH. It prefers a sunny location. It is frost-hardy.

In spring, sow the seeds on the surface of the soil in pots or in a bed. Cover them with 2–3 cm of soil. Provide a sunny to partial shade location in moist, well-drained, and slightly acidic soil.
