Gliricidia sepium is a fast-growing, nitrogen-absorbing, exotic shrub from Kenya.

It grows from 10m to 20m tall.

The leaves are pinnate, approximately 30cm long. The leaf center is sometimes streaked with red.

The flowers are light pink or lilac, tinged with white, usually with a yellow spot at the base of the petal. The calyx is glabrous, green, often tinged with red. The petal is round and nearly erect.

The pods are green, sometimes tinged with red or purple when unripe. Light yellow-brown when ripe.
