Cycas circinalis
Cycas circinalis is a plant in the cycad family, native to Asia, primarily India. It is an endangered species.
It reaches a height of approximately 4 meters.
The fir-green leaves grow to a length of 2.4 meters. Young leaves are first twisted (like those of a fern) before reaching full development. New leaves are light green and contrast with the older, dark green leaves.
Male and female inflorescences grow separately. In late winter, male and female cones appear in the center of the plant. Pollen from the male plant pollinates the female inflorescence. Pollination creates a colorful display when large orange seeds begin to form inside the female plant.
