Argemone mexicana

Argemone mexicana is an annual plant in the poppy family. It is native to Mexico and the southeastern United States.

It grows to 25–80 cm in height.

The leaves are pinnately lobed, glabrous, or thorny.

It has medicinal properties.

The fruit is an elongated capsule covered with spines.

The flower petals are yellow and reach up to 20–35 mm in length.

When cut, the seed pods exude a light yellow latex.

It is exceptionally tolerant of drought and poor soil. It prefers a sunny location.
