Picea smithiana

Picea smithiana is a species of evergreen tree in the pine family (Pinaceae). This species grows wild in the western Himalayas, from Afghanistan to Nepal.

It reaches up to 50 m in height.

The leaves are dark green, matte, and the needles are arranged radially, up to 4 cm long. They are slender, sharp, and roughly square in cross-section.

The female flowers are dark green or greenish-purple, borne vertically at the ends of the shoots. The male flowers are arranged laterally at the base of the needles, yellowish, and up to 3 cm long.

The cones are up to 20 cm long, with smooth scales. They hang down as they mature, initially light green, turning brown over time.

Every order is accompanied by a receipt or (upon request) an invoice, a delivery note compliant with WIORiN requirements, and a plant passport, if required. The seeds we offer are high-quality and designed for both nurserymen and amateurs.

Seed Handling Instructions:

Seeds should be stratified. Mix them with moist sand or peat and place them in a cool place, preferably in the refrigerator, at a temperature between 0 and 10°C (32 and 50°F) for about 1-3 months.

After this process, sow the seeds in spring, in light, well-drained soil. Sow the seeds about 0.5-1 cm deep, press lightly, and moisten thoroughly. Provide the seedlings with a bright, warm location, but protect them from direct sunlight. Once the first leaves appear, pricker them out into individual pots.

SEEDS ARE INTENDED FOR SOWING ONLY!
