Mahonia aquifolium

Mahonia aquifolium is an evergreen shrub native to western North America.

It grows 50-150 cm tall.

The leaves are tough, leathery, with prickly, serrated leaflets. Dark green above, light green below, sometimes reddish when young.

The flowers are golden yellow, gathered in erect, paniculate inflorescences. It blooms in April and May.

The fruit is a berry, initially green, later blue.

Mahonia aquifolium requires fertile, moderately moist soil, low in calcium, and a pH ranging from acidic to neutral. It prefers a shady or partly sunny location.

It is completely frost-hardy.

Every order is accompanied by a receipt or (upon request) an invoice, a delivery note compliant with WIORiN requirements, and a plant passport, if required. The seeds we offer are of high quality and intended for both nurseries and amateurs.

Seed Handling Instructions:

Place seeds in fine-mesh bags and bury them in moist peat for 2 months at 21°C. Then store them in a cool, moist stratified environment at 3°C ​​for 5 months.

Sow the seeds in autumn in a cold frame or greenhouse at a temperature of 13-19°C.
