Alnus glutinosa
Alnus glutinosa is a tree with a spreading crown belonging to the birch family. It grows throughout almost all of Europe, as well as in parts of Asia and northwest Africa.
It reaches up to 30 meters in height.

The leaves are green, ovate, and sticky, remaining green in autumn and falling off, with unevenly serrated and wavy edges.
The bark is dark gray, almost black, and splits open.
The flowers are dioecious, male flowers, visible in autumn. It blooms in spring before the leaves unfold.
The fruits are small nuts with air-filled wings, facilitating dispersal by wind and water. The seeds are contained in seedheads resembling small cones.

Seed Handling Instructions:
In spring, sow the seeds surface-soil in garden soil, gently tamping them down to press them into the soil, and cover with a damp cloth until the first germination occurs.
