Dalbergia sissoo is a fast-growing, hardy, deciduous rosewood native to the Indian subcontinent and southern Iran.

It grows up to 2.5 meters tall.

The leaves are leathery, alternate, pinnately compound, and approximately 15 cm long.

The flowers are white or pink, fragrant, up to 1.5 cm long, arranged in dense clusters 5 to 10 cm long.

The pods are light brown, oblong, flat, thin, and strap-like.
