Cytisus scoparius
Cytisus scoparius is a shrub native to southern and central Europe. It grows to 1-2 meters in height.
The plant has medicinal properties! It reduces sensitivity and nerve conduction in the heart muscle, and is also used for chronic liver and kidney diseases.
The flowers are large, papilionaceous, golden-yellow, and very numerous. They begin blooming in late May and early June. The plant is a melliferous plant!
The fruit is a pod, initially green, later brownish-black, and silky-hairy, up to 5 cm long, ripening in autumn.
The leaves are small, green, trifoliate, obovate, and hairy on the underside.
Cytisus scoparius has no special soil requirements. It prefers a sunny, sheltered location. It is completely frost-hardy.
