Castanea sativa
Castanea sativa is a tree with a wide, dense, spherical crown, native to the Mediterranean region. In our climate, it reaches about 20 meters in height. The plant has medicinal properties!
The flowers are yellow, gathered in erect inflorescences, approximately 35 cm high. They bloom in late May and early June.
The leaves are dark green, glossy, and lacentate, up to 25 cm long, turning yellow in autumn.
The edible fruit, a nut, ripens in late October and early November. Chestnut fruit contains as much vitamin C as 100g of lemon. They are also a rich source of vitamins B1, B2, E, malic acid, lecithin, magnesium, iron, and potassium. They strengthen immunity and fight infections, and thanks to their high content of unsaturated fatty acids, they are beneficial in combating heart and circulatory diseases. Castanea sativa grows best in fertile, light, well-drained, and acidic soil. It prefers sunny, wind-sheltered locations.
Seed Handling: Stratify the seeds by storing them in a humid environment in the refrigerator for several months, then sow them in spring in pots or directly into the ground. SEEDS ARE INTENDED FOR SOWING ONLY!
