Mallotus philippensis
Mallotus philippensis is a plant in the Euphorbiaceae family, widespread in tropical and subtropical regions of the outer Himalayas.
It grows up to 25 m tall.
The leaves are opposite, ovate to oblong, with a long, pointed tip. The upper surface is green without hairs, and the underside is light gray. Small red glands can be seen with a magnifying glass. The leaf stalk is 2 to 5 cm long, slightly thickened at both ends. The veins are prominent and visible beneath the leaf.
Yellow-brown flowers are produced on clusters. Male and female flowers grow on separate trees.
The fruit can appear at any time of year, approximately three months after flowering. It is usually a three-lobed capsule, 6 to 9 mm wide, covered with a red, powdery substance.
