Caryota urens is a large palm from the Arecaceae family, native to India and Sri Lanka.

It grows up to 20 meters tall.

The leaves located at the top of the trunk are long, up to 4 meters, and pinnate.

The inflorescence is broom-like and pendulous. The flowers are clustered in clusters of three (one female and two male).

The fruit is sour and stinging. It is a berry with 1-2 yellowish or reddish seeds.

Caryota urens requires fertile, well-drained soil with high moisture. It prefers partial shade.
