Picea pungens
Picea pungens is a unique variety of spruce native to the mountainous regions of North America.
It reaches up to 30 meters in height.
The needles are pointed, stiff, very prickly, and arranged perpendicular to the twigs, ranging in color from blue-green to silvery-blue.
It blooms in spring, producing small male (yellowish) and female (reddish-brown or greenish) flowers. After pollination, these flowers develop into large, cylindrical cones that mature and release seeds the following summer.
The cones are pendulous, light brown, and 8-10 cm long. Their scales are small, soft, and have distinctly truncated and unevenly serrated tops.
Picea pungens grows well in sandy, well-drained, and slightly acidic to neutral soils. It prefers a sunny location.
Each order is accompanied by a receipt or (upon request) an invoice, a delivery note compliant with WIORiN requirements, and a plant passport, if required.
The seeds we offer are of high quality and intended for both nurseries and amateurs.
Seed Handling Instructions:
Seeds require stratification - Place the seeds with moist potting mix in a container and refrigerate for 1-3 months. Then, sow them in spring in a well-drained potting mix of compost, peat, and sand.
The potting mix should be kept moist, and after sowing, the seeds should be kept in a warm location and watered regularly.
SEEDS ARE INTENDED FOR SOWING ONLY!
