Quercus acutissima

Quercus acutissima

Quercus acutissima is a fast-growing deciduous tree from East Asia, prized for its ornamental, glossy leaves resembling a sweet chestnut.

It reaches up to 15–30 m in height.

The leaves are elliptical-lanceolate, oblong, and pointed. The leaf margin is distinctly serrated, with each tooth tipped with a stiff, sharp bone.

The flowers appear simultaneously with the leaf development, giving the tree a decorative appearance in spring.

Quercus acutissima grows best in well-drained, sandy, clay, or humus-rich soils with a pH ranging from slightly acidic to neutral.

It prefers sunny to partially shaded locations.
