Liquidambar formosana
Liquidambar formosana is a large deciduous tree from East Asia.
In its natural habitat, it typically reaches 30–35 m. In gardens, it often grows smaller, but it is still a tree of considerable size.
It is characterized by three-lobed leaves that turn intense shades of red and yellow in autumn.
The flowers are small, inconspicuous, and yellow-green.
The fruits are distinctive, spiky balls that remain on the tree after the leaves have fallen.
Liquidambar formosana grows best in deep, fertile, and moist soil. It thrives in clay soil.
It prefers a sunny location.
