Mangifera indica
Mangifera indica is a tree belonging to the cashew family. It is native to India, Malaysia, China, and the Philippines.
It grows up to 30 meters in height.
The leaves are lanceolate, entire, oblong, and arranged in rosettes.
The flowers are yellow or red. They are small and inconspicuous, and are arranged in large, branched inflorescences. A single inflorescence sometimes consists of 5,000–7,000 flowers.
The fruit is a drupe; 55% of the fruit is pulp, the remainder being the seed. The drupe is large, strongly flattened, and attached to the seed fibers.
The fruit is generally elongated and flattened. The skin is initially dark green, later turning various shades of yellow-red. It is thin and smooth, but firm. The flesh is orange-yellow, very aromatic, and juicy.
