Hibiscus cannabinus is an annual or biennial plant belonging to the mallow family. Native to Africa, it also spreads to other continents in tropical climates.

It grows up to 3 meters tall.

The leaves are ovate, 3-5 lobed, very similar to those of herbs from the Cannabis genus.

The flowers are white, yellow, or purple, 8 to 15 cm in diameter, and grow in the leaf axils.
