Platanus acerifolia
Platanus acerifolia is a tree with a spreading crown native to America. It grows to a height of 20-30 meters.
The flowers are greenish-yellow or red, gathered in dense, spherical heads, and begin blooming in late April and early May.
The fruit, hairy nuts, gathered in spherical, brown seedheads, ripen in October and remain on the tree until spring.
The leaves are green, palmately lobed, up to 25 cm wide, turning various colors in autumn.
A characteristic feature of the plant is its bark, which peels off in colorful flakes.
Platanus acerifolia requires fresh, deep soil, preferably sandy loam. It prefers sunny or partly sunny locations. It is completely frost-hardy.
