Acer palmatum
Acer palmatum is a small tree or large shrub with a broad crown, native to Japan, South Korea, and eastern China. It grows up to 5 meters tall.
The fruit is samara, up to 2 cm long, and ranges in color from bronze to red.
The leaves are dark green, 5-9 lobed, up to 10 cm long, turning carmine-red in autumn.
The flowers are reddish-purple, clustered in inflorescences. It blooms in late May and early June.
The bark is smooth, grayish-brown or gray.
Acer palmatum grows best in slightly acidic, moist, and well-drained soil. It prefers sunny or partially sunny, sheltered locations. Frost-hardy to -20°C.

Seed Handling Instructions:
Seeds should be stratified – soaked in warm water for 24 hours, then stored in a cool place at 0-10°C (32-50°F), preferably in the refrigerator, for 90-120 days. After this period, they can be sown in a pot with well-drained, slightly acidic soil and kept in a frost-free place, such as a greenhouse.
