Platycladus orientalis
Platycladus orientalis is an evergreen conifer native to northeastern China, Korea, and Russia.
It reaches heights of 1.5 to 5 meters, although in its natural habitat it can grow to 12-20 meters.
When young, it has a dense, conical or ovate form, often multi-stemmed. With age, it becomes more spreading and irregular.
A characteristic feature of the eastern biota is the vertical arrangement of shoots and twigs.
The leaves are scaly, tightly adherent, light green or yellowish green, often with a prominent central gland. In winter, they may take on a brownish hue.
The young cones are fleshy and bluish-green, and when mature, they become reddish-brown and woody.
Platycladus orientalis prefers fertile, well-drained soil with a pH ranging from slightly acidic to neutral.
It prefers a sunny location.
