Michelia maudiae
Michelia maudiae is a prized evergreen ornamental tree native to southern China and Hainan.
In its natural habitat, it can reach up to 20 m, but in gardens, it is usually a smaller tree or shrub, 5-10 m tall.
Leaves are leathery, elliptical, and 7-18 cm long. They are an intense, dark green on top and a lighter, bluish-green on the underside.
They are smooth and glossy.
The flowers are very large, single, with 9 white petals. The flowers are intensely fragrant.
Michelia maudiae requires fertile, acidic, well-drained soil, and constantly moist.
It is relatively hardy, which means it tolerates light frosts, but in colder climates, it requires a sheltered location.
It prefers a sunny or partly sunny location.
