Magnolia officinalis is a low-growing tree or shrub native to China, prized for its ornamental flowers and medicinal bark.

It grows to approximately 6–10 meters in height.

The leaves are very large, ovate, reaching up to 40–50 cm in length, giving the plant an exotic appearance.

The flowers are creamy white or creamy beige, with a fragrant, distinctive scent. They have 9 to 15 petals.

Magnolia officinalis grows best in fertile and acidic soil.

It prefers a sunny location.
