Cryptomeria Fortunei

Cryptomeria Fortunei

Cryptomeria Fortunei is an evergreen conifer native to southern China.

It reaches 40-50 meters in height, although it is usually much smaller in cultivation.

The needles are awl-shaped, inward-curving. They are light green in color, darkening with age. They are stiff and arranged spirally.

Young shoots are usually green, often pendulous.

The bark is reddish-brown, fibrous, and peels off in long strips.

The cones are small, spherical, and brown, appearing at the ends of the shoots.

Cryptomeria Fortunei grows best in fertile, humus-rich, moist, and acidic soil.

It prefers a sunny location. It requires protection from frosty, drying winds.

In Poland, it requires winter protection, especially for young specimens, as it may freeze during harsh winters.
