Acer saccharum Marsh.
Acer saccharum Marsh. is a large, long-lived deciduous tree native to eastern North America.
It reaches up to 30-40 meters.
The leaves are opposite, seasonal, and 3-5-lobed. The lobes are pointed, and the indentations between them are rounded. The undersides of the leaves are lighter, grayish-white.
In autumn, they turn a very showy color, ranging from yellow, through orange, to bright scarlet red.
The small, greenish-yellow flowers, gathered in umbel-shaped subumbels, appear in April, just before or during flowering.
Acer saccharum Marsh. grows best in deep, fertile, well-drained, and moist soils with a pH ranging from slightly acidic to neutral.
It does not tolerate saline or poor soils. Prefers sunny to semi-shaded places.
