Chimonanthus Pracecox

Chimonanthus Pracecox

Chimonanthus Pracecox is a spreading shrub native to China. It grows up to 2 meters tall.

The bell-shaped flowers, 3 cm in diameter, are yellow with a purple center and appear in February, before the leaves emerge, and bloom until April.

An additional advantage of the flowers is their pleasant and intense fragrance, detectable even from a distance.

The glossy, ovate-lacentate, green leaves, up to 20 cm long, remain on the plant for a long time, even throughout the winter.

The fruit is a single-seeded achene hidden in the receptacle.

Chimonanthus Pracecox has no special soil requirements. It prefers a sunny location, where it flowers best. It is frost-hardy to -20°C.
