Alnus nepalensis
Alnus nepalensis is a large deciduous alder found in the subtropical highlands of the Himalayas.
It grows up to 30 meters tall.
The leaves are alternate and simple, with the upper leaf surface matte or glossy and dark green, while the lower leaf surface is pale with dotted, yellowish-brown scales.
The flowers are catkins, divided into male and female flowers.
The fruits, which superficially resemble pine cones, are dark brown, erect on short stalks, elliptical, and composed of numerous spreading, hard, woody scales.
It requires well-drained soil and prefers a sunny or partly sunny location.
