Hovenia dulcis is a tree native to China, Japan, and Korea. It grows to a height of 8-12 meters.

The plant contains a substance called dihydromyricetin, which reduces the effects of alcohol, allowing you to drink alcohol without worrying about side effects!

The green, heart-shaped leaves, large and up to 20 cm long, turn various colors in autumn.

The white, five-petaled flowers, gathered in showy inflorescences, begin blooming in July. The plant is melliferous!

The black-purple fruits, edible berries, can be eaten raw or made into preserves.

The raw fruits are fragrant and sweet; when dried, they look and taste very similar to raisins, hence the plant's common name.

Hovenia dulcis is also known for its health benefits, which is why it is used to protect the liver. The plant is also used for bruises and hepatitis.

Hovenia dulcis requires sandy, well-drained soil. It prefers a sunny or partly sunny location. It is completely frost-hardy.

Seed Handling Instructions:

The seeds require stratification. To stratify, mix the seeds with moist (not wet) sand and place in the refrigerator for approximately 1.5 months. Sowing is best done in March-April, in a greenhouse or pot. Sow the seeds in light, well-drained soil.

Provide a bright and warm location. Keep the soil consistently and moderately moist, avoiding overwatering.
