Syringa vulgaris
Syringa vulgaris
Syringa vulgaris is a deciduous shrub native to the Balkans, but thanks to its extraordinary beauty, it has gained popularity throughout Europe and beyond.
It grows from 2 to 7 meters in height.
The leaves are broadly ovate, glabrous on both sides, and dark green.
A distinctive feature of the common lilac is its flowers, gathered in large, conical inflorescences, which can range in shades from delicate white to deep purple. The flowers exude a beautiful, intense, sweet fragrance. It blooms in May.
Syringa vulgaris requires fertile, well-drained, moderately moist soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH, and prefers a sunny location.
