Pinus sylvestris is an evergreen conifer with a loose crown. It occurs commonly in mountainous areas of Northern and Central Europe and Eastern Siberia.
It reaches a height of 30 m
Needles gray-green to blue-green, set in pairs on short shoots. Stiff and hard, pointed, finely serrated, twisted around their axis. They remain on the tree from 3 to 6 years.
Cones set on short pedicels, are small and green, sometimes curved, with time they open and take on a wide egg shape, turn brown.
