Picea smithiana

Picea smithiana is a species of evergreen tree in the pine family (Pinaceae). This species of spruce occurs in the wild in the western Himalayas, from Afghanistan to Nepal.

It reaches up to 50 m in height.

Leaves are dark green, matte, needles arranged radially up to 4 cm long. They are slender, sharp and have a more or less square cross-section.

Female flowers are dark green or greenish-purple, grow vertically at the ends of the shoots. Male flowers are arranged laterally at the base of the needles, yellowish, up to 3 cm long.

Cones are up to 20 cm long, scales smooth. When ripe, they hang down, initially light green, with time turning brown.
