Nelumbo nucifera

Nelumbo nucifera is a perennial plant from the Nelumbonaceae family. It grows wild in Asia. It also spreads here and there in other regions of the world.
It reaches up to 1.8 m in height.
Young leaves float on water, but older ones rise up to 1.5 m above its surface. They have a disc-shaped shape and are sunken in the middle. They reach a width of 30–90 cm and are covered with wax.
Single flowers, pink or white, 12–30 cm in diameter, fragrant. Both stamen and pistils are numerous. The latter are sunken in a characteristic flower base. Both flowers and leaves grow above the water.
Oval fruits, reaching up to 2.5 cm in length, are contained in a brown flower base.
