Melia azedarach

 

Melia azedarach is a tree from northern India. It grows to a height of 10-12 meters.

The plant has medicinal properties!

Purple, fragrant flowers, gathered in panicles, begin to bloom at the turn of March and April.

Fruits, drupes, pale orange or cream in color, ripen at the end of autumn, remain on the tree after the leaves have fallen. In the past, rosaries were made from them.

Young leaves of a reddish shade, feathery, appear in late spring or even early summer.

Seeds, leaves, flowers and bark are used in Indian traditional medicine, due to their antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral properties, used especially for skin diseases. Infusions from the leaves also have antidiabetic properties.

Melia azedarach has no special soil requirements. It prefers sunny locations. Frost resistance up to -18 degrees.
