Mangifera indica is a tree belonging to the cashew family. It comes from the areas of India, Malaysia, China, the Philippines.
It reaches up to 30 m in height.
The leaves are lanceolate, entire, oblong, gathered in rosettes.
The flowers are yellow or red. They are small, inconspicuous, gathered in large, branched inflorescences. One inflorescence sometimes consists of 5000-7000 flowers.
The fruit is a drupe, 55% of the fruit is pulp, the rest is a seed – a stone. It is large, strongly flattened, fibers are attached to it.
The fruit is generally elongated and flattened. The skin is initially dark green, later changing to various shades of yellow-red, it is thin and smooth, but hard. The flesh is orange-yellow, very aromatic and juicy.
