Mallotus philippensis
Mallotus philippensis
Mallotus philippensis is a plant of the Euphorbiaceae family widespread in tropical and subtropical regions in the outer regions of the Himalayas.
It reaches up to 25 m in height.
The leaves on the stem are opposite, ovate to oblong with a long, pointed tip. The upper surface is green without hairs, the underside is light gray. Small red glands can be seen with a magnifying glass. The leaf stalk is 2 to 5 cm long, slightly thickened at both ends. The veins protrude and are visible under the leaf.
Yellow-brown flowers are formed on the racemes. Male and female flowers grow on separate trees.
The fruit can appear at any time of the year, about three months after flowering. It is usually a capsule with three flaps, 6 to 9 mm wide, covered with a red, powdery substance.
