Ligustrum vulgare is a species of plant from the olive family. It occurs in Europe, western Asia and north-western Africa.

It reaches up to 3 meters in height.

Flowers white or greenish-white, gathered in dense, terminal, conical panicles. The inflorescence axis, pedicels and base of the calyx are delicately pubescent.

Leaves entire, slightly leathery, glabrous, short-petioled. Elliptical blade dark green, ovate, narrowing towards the base and apex.

Buds ovate, blunted at the top, adjacent to the shoot and slightly flattened. The characteristic feature is the covering of the terminal buds with small leaves.
