Lagerstroemia speciosa is a spreading, large shrub, belonging to the loosestrife family, occurs naturally in the area from India and China to northern Australia, commonly called Banaba. In our climate conditions it reaches about 4 meters in height.
Fragrant, small, purple flowers, gathered in erect inflorescences up to 30 cm long, bloom at the turn of summer. The plant has medicinal properties! Among other things, it maintains the correct concentration of glucose in the blood and is recommended for problems with the kidneys, bladder and hypertension.
Spherical or ovoid fruits, brown in color. Green, elongated, sharply pointed leaves, turn red in autumn. Lagerstroemia speciosa has no soil requirements. It prefers sunny or semi-sunny, sheltered positions. Resistant to frost.
