Kigelia pinnata

Kigelia pinnata is an evergreen tree from tropical Africa.

It reaches up to 18m in height.

The leaves are green, feathery, and contain valuable hexadecanoic acid.

The flowers are bell-shaped, dark red, hanging on several-meter-long peduncles. They open at night and are pollinated by bats.

The tree produces fruit in gray “sausages” that can be up to 100 cm long and weigh up to 10 kg. Most often, however, the fruits are 30 to 60 cm long, 10 cm wide and weigh about 5 kg.
