Grewia optiva is a shrub or small deciduous or semi-deciduous tree with a spreading crown, often cultivated in the Himalayas.
It grows to a height of 12 meters.
Leaves opposite, 5-13 cm long, ovate, serrated, rough and hairy. At the base
rounded, slightly oblique, petiole thick, hairy.
Flowers are single pendulums, opposite to the leaves. Petals white or light yellow.
Fruit is a drupe, 1-4 lobed, olive green, when ripe it becomes black.
