Chimonanthus pracecox

Chimonanthus pracecox is a spreading shrub from China. It grows up to 2 meters high.

Bell-shaped flowers with a diameter of 3 cm, yellow with a purple center, appear already in February, before the leaves develop, and bloom until April.

An additional advantage of the flowers is their pleasant and intense scent, which can be felt even from a long distance.

The leaves are shiny, ovoid, green, up to 20 cm long, and remain on the plant for a long time, even throughout the winter.

The fruit are single-seeded achenes hidden in the flower base.

Chimonanthus pracecox has no special soil requirements. It prefers sunny positions, which is when it blooms best. Frost resistance up to -20.
