Bixa orellana

Bixa orellana, also known as Orléans tree, is a large shrub or small tree from Central and South America. It reaches about 10 meters in height.

Pink-purple flowers, gathered in umbels.

Red-orange fruit, flattened capsules containing seeds inside.

Leaves are light green, ovoid, shiny.

Plants have healing properties! It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Bixa orellana requires moderately fertile, permeable and moderately moist soil. It prefers sunny or semi-sunny positions.
