Berberis vulgaris is a species of shrub belonging to the barberry family. It occurs in the wild in Europe.

Fragrant, yellow flowers, gathered in hanging clusters up to 5 cm long.

Leaves are green, small, slightly prickly-toothed, obovate.

The fruit is a multi-seeded, hard, ovoid, elongated, shiny red berry with a sour taste.

It has medicinal properties, is used to make infusions, jams, and tinctures.

Berberis vulgaris has no soil requirements. It prefers sunny or semi-sunny locations. Resistant to frost.
