Berberis thunbergii

Berberis thunbergii is a tall shrub from the Berberis family. The plant comes from Japan. It is a popular and eagerly cultivated ornamental shrub in many countries around the world. It reaches 0.5 – 2 meters in height.
Small, yellow flowers, gathered in small hanging clusters.

It creates thin, woody and furrowed with age, branched, stiff shoots.

They are covered with numerous, small, ovate, green, seasonal leaves, which turn red in autumn. Sharp, thin thorns also grow on the shoots in the leaf axils.

Red, elongated, edible fruits, hanging from the shoots on thin peduncles like rows of beads. They remain on the plant long after the leaves have fallen (even the entire winter).
