Argemone mexicana

Argemone mexicana is an annual plant from the poppy family. It occurs naturally in Mexico and the southeastern part of the United States.
It grows to 25–80 cm in height.
The leaves are pinnately lobed, glabrous or thorny.
It has medicinal properties.
The fruits are elongated capsules covered with thorns.
The flower petals are yellow and reach up to 20–35 mm in length.
When cut, the seed pods secrete a light yellow latex.
It is exceptionally tolerant to drought and poor soil. It prefers a sunny position.
