Aralia elata is a shrub native to Japan.
It grows up to 5 meters tall and is known as the tall Aralia.
The fragrant white flowers are gathered in umbrella-shaped corymbs and begin blooming in late July and early September.
The round, black fruits are clustered in clusters of a dozen or so.
They ripen in autumn. The leaves are approximately 1 meter long and clustered at the tips of the shoots.
The leaves turn various colors in autumn. The tree’s foliage is particularly ornamental.
The shoots are covered with short thorns. It makes a good hedge. Aralia elata requires fertile soil.
It prefers sunny or partly sunny locations, sheltered from the wind. It is completely frost-hardy.
